Buxton Beach $50 Million Rebuild

Dare County has begun pumping 2 million cubic yards of offshore sand onto three miles of eroded beach at Buxton. The dredge Liberty Island started work July 31, 2026, with a second dredge arriving mid-August, aiming for a Sept. 30, 2026 finish. This is the third and most expensive nourishment attempt.
